Howth Brownies & Ladybirds wrap up well for North to South Pole trek

On Saturday 16 April 2016 Howth Ladybirds and Brownies set off on a major expedition to trek from the cold and blustery North Pole (Howth Summit) down to the frozen ice-cream shop, Yummie's, at the South Pole (Howth pier).

At 11am 43 brave souls started the journey. Temperatures increased slightly as we stopped off along the way in Greenland and Iceland. We stopped off to say ‘Hi’ to our families in Ireland and then continued on through France and over the Pyrenees mountains into sunny Spain. We headed then to Morocco, where we stopped for a drink and a game of Grumpy Frog.

It was then on through South Africa where we spotted a couple of elephants and zebras and other wild animals! We managed to pass
through the tropic of Capricorn, Cancer and the Equator … Phew!

When we finally reached the South Pole, we set up camp in the playground where more games were played. We debriefed our huge adventure over a delicious ice-cream and then it was home for a well-deserved rest.

We walked a total of 108.5km (86km on the day and 22.5 was walked later on in the week by those who missed the trek)!

Well done, well done, very well done to all our explorers!
